BLACK WOMEN IN THE ARTS FIRST LOGO
First our name Black Women in the Arts well it came from a discussion at one of our meetings that the three founders (Beverley, Chris and Lola) had from 1994 onwards. The first of many meetings that took place at Lola’s in Tottenham. You could say that the organisation was born in Tottenham. Our very first office was in Hackney at the Metropolitan Business Centre, Kingsland Road, London N1 5AZ This logo was designed by one of the founding members (Chris Charles) brother-in-law Frank. It took him several weeks to come up with the logo, but it was well worth the wait, we were delighted with the final design. From 1997 onwards we began using logo and the acronym but were force to remove the ‘I’ from the logo as the acronym resembled the then airline British West Indian Airways

Black Women in the Arts Second Logo
From 1998 BWA was working with Hackney Council who were at the time providing support to small community initiatives through which coporate companies offered their expertises to assist th growth and development of small businesses. Through this network of coporate business such East London Partnerss, Cameroon and McKenna and the Bank of England provided support to BWA Throught this network. It was the Bank of England who heard of the BWA issue with its current logo, then created a new logo for BWA. We never got the opportunity to thank the grapic designer personally for his/her designs but we were extremely grateful for the many designs that were presented. We chose the logo you see above. The new logo removed the ‘I’ and our new acronym was created. Around the same time that our new logo became the new face of Black Women in the Arts. We had acquired a smaller office space moved to 3 Bradbury Street, Dalston (a building owned and managed by Hackney Co-operative Development (HCD). Lola and Chris had both left by the time we moved to Bradbury Street, leaving Beverley as the sole remaining founder with a small team of volunteers.

Black Women in the Arts THRID LOGO
Throughout the next five to ten years, there the logo of the figure has remain constant, although we had made some adjustments to the text by not using the acroymn as part of the logo but to write the name of Black Women in the Arts in full. The idea here, is to help our audience identiy the organisation more easily. But we need not have worried about the text as the flowing figure is so recogniseable. The logo as organically changed with the times and since around 2010 more of our publicity display the logo below.

Black Women in the Arts ONLY TEE SHIRT
This tee shirt was created around 1998, as a sample of size XL on Egyptian black cotton. It was our intentions to produce more of these tee shirts for sale, but due to lack of funding. Black Women in the Arts did not produce any further tee shirts. So this is the first (one) and only one that was produced and has survived over the past twenty –seven years (27yrs)

Black Women in the Arts ART SERVICE CARD FONT AND BACK PAGE
The idea behind these cards was to give our audience a quick and easy way to contact us if and when they needed our service. We would display these in venues, hand to members of the public, post to clients and display them at our monthly events. They were good, worked well and small enough to just pop in your pocket or handbag.
